ASSIGNMENT I
1. Make an example of problem in a company and solve the problem by management!
Answer:
In every company or an organization, there are always some problems that must be dealt with, included in hotel. Hotel has some departments, that each department has its problem. For example is in housekeeping department.
Problem that often happens in housekeeping department is about limited linen par stock like bed sheet, pillow case, towel, etc. That the amount of item is always diminishes every day. It’s caused by a poor linen par stock management with the amount of room that available. The cause of broken linen is because the age of linens those have expired and guest fault that causes the linen dirty or broken and also worker fault that can’t keep the linen carefully. This could become serious problem if there’s no good problem solving through a good management.
Problem solving: The way I think to solve this problem is laundry worker must report to laundry supervisor that linen par stock has diminished and need some new linens. After the supervisor ask laundry attendant to make a linen par stock list, start from all available linen, linen that in use and future prediction of linen that needed and increased need of linen per room. After that, the par stock list report is given to the manager housekeeping for an approval. After its approval, the manager make a request letter that called “purchase request” based on par stock list report that has been made by laundry department.
After the purchase request finish, its send to room director for approval and sent again to accounting department. From accounting department, the purchase request goes to General Manager for approval. After approval of GM, the purchase request back to accounting manager. The accounting makes a spending list for the request. Next is accounting department submit the list of item that must be purchased to purchasing department, so purchasing department can purchase the item they needed.
After the items have been purchased, the housekeeping department makes a linen par stock list report again for purchasing plan in next linen purchasing.
2. What is the meaning of efficiency and effectiveness?
Answer:
· Efficiency is extent to which an organization or program maintains a particular level of production with fewer resources or increases the level of goods or services it produces with a less than proportionate increase in the resource used.
Example of Efficiency:
The definition suggests that efficiency is concerned not only with resources, but also with what is produced. It also highlights two different ways of achieving greater efficiency. On the one hand, we can try to reduce the costs incurred to provide the same level of educational services for given number of students; this is referred to as economic efficiency. On the other hand, the term production efficiency is used to refer to producing more goods or services without incurring additional costs (or, at least, without increasing costs at the same rate).
· Effectiveness is the extent to which an organization or program produces particular outputs (which are concrete and measurable) or outcomes (which may not be measurable).
Example of Effectiveness:
The formal educational system may be internally effective by producing a very high pass rate in terminal examinations, but employers often complain that young people are not adequately prepared for the world of work. When an education system produced “graduates” who are well prepared for the multiple demands placed upon them outside of school, then it is said to have high external effectiveness.
